The Story

About This Place

Afterschool Coffee occupies a niche that few cafes in Thao Dien attempt: a space designed around children rather than merely tolerating them. The play area is a genuine draw for expat and local families in the An Khánh pocket of the neighborhood, where parents can order coffee and settle in while younger kids occupy themselves. Beyond passive play, the cafe runs structured classes for babies, toddlers, and older children — a detail that turns a one-off visit into a recurring weekly stop for families building routines in the area.

The coffee itself draws praise, and the staff consistently earn mentions for being supportive and warm — a meaningful quality when the clientele includes wrangling toddlers and tired parents. Hours run 8 AM to 6:30 PM Monday through Saturday, with Sunday closed, making it a weekday and Saturday morning option rather than a weekend brunch destination.

Not every visitor leaves satisfied. One reviewer noted the space felt chaotic and some equipment looked worn, which is worth weighing for anyone expecting a polished environment. The clientele skews toward families rather than remote workers, and the atmosphere reflects that — lively, occasionally loud, and oriented toward the under-ten crowd rather than a quiet laptop session. For Thao Dien parents looking for somewhere that genuinely caters to small children rather than just permitting them, Afterschool Coffee fills a gap that most of the neighborhood's cafes leave open.

My first and last time going . Everything was a bit gross and broken and unkept. A lot of the other kids and parents were on their screens and it just felt chaotic.
