The Story

About This Place

Cà phê C4 sits at the end of Street 3 near the old police apartment complex in Bình An, and it carries the weight of that address — a corner that feels like it has been largely bypassed by the renovation wave reshaping the rest of Thao Dien. Open from 6 AM every day of the week, it draws an early crowd of residents who come for the unhurried pace as much as the coffee itself. The seating is spacious and open, designed for lingering rather than turnover. What genuinely sets it apart in 2026 Saigon is a small detail: the cafe still keeps physical newspapers on hand, a rarity that regulars specifically mention and that signals something about the clientele it attracts — older locals, expats who have been in the neighborhood long enough to have a usual table, anyone looking for a morning that doesn't involve a phone screen. The drinks menu is broad and prices sit at the accessible end of the Thao Dien spectrum. It is worth noting that some visitors find the ventilation inadequate on hot afternoons and that coffee quality draws mixed opinions — this is a place defined by atmosphere and accessibility more than craft roasting. For anyone wanting a window into what the neighborhood felt like before boutique everything arrived, the early-morning hours here offer exactly that.

This is my new (kind of) local coffee shop. I love it. Aside from the sheer volume of traffic trying to kill everything that breathes, in a city that has exploded over the last 20 year, I can't imagine this little corner of it has changed all that much in my entire lifetime. A lovely place to sit and watch the world go by.
