The Story

About This Place

Chaidao.cafe occupies a modest space on Đường Số 47 in Thảo Điền, but the interior reads like a personal museum. Shelves are packed with anime figurines and scale models, a vintage TV runs Disney VHS films from the early 2000s, and an electric piano sits near the entrance — available for any guest who wants to play. The owner's collecting instincts extend to art books and decorative pieces, giving the space a density of objects rare among neighborhood cafes.

The layout splits between two moods. The front outdoor area is shaded and easy-going, suited to long conversations. Inside, high tables attract people who come to sketch or work — the cafe has developed a following among illustrators and hobbyist artists. Vietnamese regulars specifically flag it as a space for ký họa (urban sketching), and that niche has shaped the crowd.

Drinks are functional rather than exceptional — at least one reviewer notes the coffee doesn't stand out — but the atmosphere compensates. Music selections earn consistent praise, credited to an owner with evident taste. A ukulele and guitar also sit out for guests alongside the piano.

Hours run Tuesday through Sunday, 7:30 AM to either 5 or 6 PM depending on the day, with Monday closed. The earlier closing makes this a morning-to-afternoon destination. In a neighborhood full of polished minimalist cafes optimized for social media, this space tilts toward accumulation and personality — a collector's interior where the background noise is old Disney films and someone occasionally playing piano.

I would like to like this place and hope it takes notes for the future: it has a lot of nice elements: the drinks are good. the space is comfortable. the bulletin board is also a great concept. however, the music is unbearable. it sounded like an AI piano playlist. extremely repetitive and grinding. the second issue is. there isn’t enough sockets for how workable the space is. they had 1 large adapter but it was loose and probably should be replaced. you literally have to balance the charger to keep the power going.
