The Story

About This Place

Hue Corner occupies a quiet stretch near Tropic Garden, its plain shopfront doing nothing to signal the steady crowd that fills it most mornings and lunchtimes. The menu is rooted in Central Vietnamese cooking — the spicier, more pungent regional style that Saigon restaurants often soften for a wider audience. This kitchen mostly does not.

The bún bò Huế is the anchor dish, the broth carrying lemongrass and fermented shrimp paste in the right proportions. Bánh bèo, the small steamed rice cakes with dried shrimp and crispy shallots, draws regulars who treat it as a reason to return rather than a side thought. Bún chả giò holds up well — the spring rolls arrive properly crisp, the accompanying sauce balancing sweet, sour, and savory without tipping into any one direction. Cơm hến, rice with baby clams and raw vegetables, sits at 50,000 VND and represents the kind of honest Central staple that rarely appears on Thao Dien menus at all. Duck hot pot is a less obvious order but earns repeat mentions.

Pricing runs well below the neighborhood average, and the dining room is large enough that a lunch rush does not create the compressed, waiting-for-the-table feeling common elsewhere on the strip. Locals arrive for early noodle bowls before the expat crowd has thought about coffee. Sunday hours close at 3 PM, a reflection of that breakfast-heavy rhythm.

One practical note: smoking is permitted indoors, which affects the atmosphere noticeably and makes it a poor choice for families with young children. For anyone else, 881 reviews averaging 4.3 stars tell the rest of the story.

The outlook of the shop looks simple and dated - however every dish ordered was amazing! Never judge a book by its cover, now I understand why this place is highly recommended by the locals 🤩👍 (they usually come here for breakfast (noodles) and sides) And the price is very reasonable too!

Yummy bún bò Huế. The staffs are well trained. But I hate that people come here and smoke a lot. The restaurant allows smoking!!!! You should definitely never take your family with kids here.

My first and last time here. Lots of people came by for lunch. I had their cơm hến (50.000 VND), which is rice with baby clams and raw veggies. The taste was decent and the veggies appeared fresh. It does have crispy fried pork pieces on top, which was not stated on the menu. Good to always ask the waiter if the particular dish has pork thrown in, in case you don’t eat pork. I don’t prefer them, so I placed those pieces to the side. I also had a fresh coconut drink for 35.000 VND. You can ask them to pour out the juice and scrape the coconut meat out for you. That was nice of them to do. I wish the coconut water was cold, it was a bit warm. I have been in Vietnam for nearly 3 weeks now and I have yet to get sick 🤢 until now. I have eaten raw veggies at places too and I also carry a travel medicine to reduce chance of illness. However, after about 2 hours from eating this food, I began to feel extremely nauseous. This eventually led to multiple rounds of vomiting. 🤮 Now, I am not sure if it’s how they store their clams or clean their veggies, but there is a tendency to store snails in Vietnam that can cause it to spoil. I and even Vietnamese locals, have gotten stomachaches from eating at places that serve snails because they get stored outside not refrigeratorated. Perhaps, this was the case with the clams. I share this to provide caution. Maybe if you avoid what I got, you may be fine. However, I could not in good conscience recommend you order any sort of seafood (clams) at this establishment. 🤞🏽 Good luck.
