OPENHIVE COFFEE - Coffee shop in Ho Chi Minh City

About This Place
Openhive Coffee sits at the end of Đường Số 59, a narrow lane that filters out most of the traffic noise defining Thao Dien's busier stretches. The interior is built around a library concept — shelves of curated titles in Vietnamese and English line the walls, and the pace inside matches: slow, deliberate, quiet enough to hear someone turn a page.
The drink menu is built around craft and sourcing. Kombucha is made in-house using palm sugar, honey, and snowshan tea, fermented to a tartness that holds up against the afternoon heat. Matcha is imported from Japan rather than sourced through the generic blends common at other Saigon cafés. Organic phin coffee sits alongside the signature OpenHive Tea — a chilled herbal blend — and local cacao rounds out the non-coffee options. For later in the day, the bar carries a curated selection of red wine and whiskey, an unusual feature for a daytime café that signals the space is designed for longer stays.
The crowd that finds it tends to be deliberate about their time: people who bring laptops but end up reading, or who come for one drink and stay two hours. The aesthetic — warm wood tones, measured light, no background pop music — leans European and draws both expats and locals looking for something more contained than the neighborhood's louder spots.
Service pace has come up in early reviews, with some guests noting longer waits than expected for pastry orders. The café launched in soft-opening mode and continues to train its team. The setting, however, has not needed refinement: a croissant, a glass of ginger kombucha, and a shelf of books within arm's reach make for a combination that is harder to find in Thao Dien than it should be.
Reviews
I had a Vietnamese coffee, but I didn’t like the taste at all. Still, it seems like a good place to hang out or get some work done—extremely quiet.
Wonderful design, however, the service is not at its finest. I’ve ordered a simple pastry, that normally would take just a few minutes to serve…But this one took no less than 15… yet, no one informed me about it. Seriously, a steak in a restaurant takes less sometimes to get. .. Quite a frustrating experience it was.
Accidentally went to this place on its opening day. Ordered a croissant & kombucha which cant be better. Cozy and warmth coffee shop hiding away from the busy street. Good for people who want a short escape from the hustle city.
