The Story

About This Place

Pasteloa occupies the end of a narrow alley fifty meters off the main road in An Khánh ward — a location that filters out foot traffic and rewards anyone who follows directions carefully. The Brazilian owners behind the counter have built a short, focused menu around ingredients that rarely appear elsewhere in Ho Chi Minh City: pink guava marmalade, dulce de leche, hearts of palm, green olives, and slow-cooked black beans.

The pastel is the anchor of the menu — a deep-fried dough pocket with a shattering crust available in eight or nine fillings across two sizes (80g and 180g). The Romeo & Juliet version pairs mozzarella with pink guava marmalade in the sweet-savory combination Brazilians grow up eating. The meat variant uses ground beef with boiled egg and green olives. The ham and cheese runs generously on mozzarella. A hot sauce arrives on the side and draws repeated mention from diners who find it the sleeper hit of the meal.

Beyond the pastels, the feijoada has earned recognition from Brazilian expats as the genuine article — a slow-cooked black bean and pork stew that carries the weight and complexity the dish requires. The coxinha is a breaded, fried dough filled with shredded chicken, and the beef stroganoff uses beef tenderloin in a mustard-tomato-mushroom cream sauce served over rice. Dessert options include brigadeiro and a dulce de leche and banana pastel.

The room reflects Brazilian culture in its decor, and the owners are consistently present. Sunday hours begin at noon, making it one of the few spots in Thao Dien where a midday Brazilian meal is an option. The clientele draws from the neighborhood's international community — expats and visitors willing to navigate a back alley for food that doesn't resemble anything else on the street.

It's Brazilian restaurant. I was surpprised when I found this Brazilian restaurant in the local area. So I tried. I tried the Feijoada, because it looks Brazil much Lol. Anyway it tasted extraordinary. It's different from the Vietnamese food. I'm really wondering if Vietnamese people love this or not, but the other pies? were good also. Anyway the hot sauce comig with the pies were really good, it was better than pies itself Lol. Anyway the shop looks nice and nice decore. The staffs were really nice and good service. The price were a bit costly but it's very rare in HCMC. So nice to try.

Experiencing Brazilian cuisine for the first time, I found it to be exceptionally enjoyable, and the ambiance provided a distinct departure from my usual surroundings in Vietnam.

Just like the other reviews mention, the food is great. The owner definitely understands customer service, and the decor beautifully reflects Brazilian culture. I’ll definitely come back to try more items on the menu. (Must try the pastels) The restaurant is located right in the middle of a typical Vietnamese neighborhood/market, making it a surprising find. But trust Google Maps—it’ll get you there!

It’s not located on the main road. You have to walk 50 meters from the main one. But you won’t regret it. The food is amazing. I’m Brazilian and I can say that Eloa’s feijoada is original. I cleaned up the whole plate. You have options for the main dish and for desserts. Take some time to talk with the owners. Try the brigadeiro and the coxinha as well. If in Ho Chi Minh, go there.
