The Story

About This Place

Phố Cơm Tấm occupies a converted space in the An Khánh residential corridor — formerly a drinking establishment, now a full cơm tấm operation drawing residents from the surrounding BCA apartment blocks and Đo đạc Bản đồ district. The room runs cool and wide, with indoor motorbike parking and enough car space to make it practical for families who otherwise avoid street-side stalls.

The rice plate is the main event: sườn nướng arrives tender and well-marinated, with a caramelized char that holds through to the last bite. Ba chỉ follows the same standard — pork belly that's soft without being fatty-slack, seasoned through rather than glazed on top. Every plate comes with a bowl of soup; the canh cải chua nạm gân bò stands out, a sour-sweet broth with beef tendon braised to the point where it gives without dissolving. Additional soups can be ordered separately. Utensils come individually wrapped, a detail that reads less as theater and more as a baseline the kitchen actually maintains.

The menu covers the classic cơm tấm spread — sườn gọng, miếng, ba chỉ, trứng ốp la, chả trứng — without deviation into fusion or inflated pricing. For the area, which skews toward expat-oriented cafes and international chains along the main Thao Dien strip, Phố Cơm Tấm sits closer to the local residential rhythm: dinner crowds from nearby apartments, portions sized for a full meal rather than a snack. The opening promotion brought in first-timers; the food has kept a share of them coming back on rotation.

This com tam place seems recently opened, but it serves one of the best com tam I’ve had in a while. The meat was tender, well marinated, and very tasty. The soup was also very good and complemented the meal nicely. Definitely worth trying if you’re in the area.
