The Story

About This Place

Play Saigon fills a gap on Xuân Thủy that few Thao Dien bars manage: a full sports bar with working pool tables and dart boards, a kitchen that stays open until the early hours, and a bar team that regulars name by name. Both table games are genuinely uncommon in this part of the city, and on slower afternoons they're usually free without a wait. The crowd skews toward longer-term expats and repeat visitors who treat the place as a neighborhood anchor rather than a one-off stop.

The kitchen output holds up better than most late-night venues. The smoked duck in orange salad has earned consistent mentions across reviews — fresh, well-presented, and a step above standard bar food. Malaysian dishes sit alongside Vietnamese options on the menu. Cocktails are crafted rather than poured, and the bar team moves quickly even on busy nights. Staff are named in multiple reviews — Frankie, Kit, Th.Uyên, and Kenny come up by name — which says something about the consistency of the floor operation. Saturday ladies' night includes one complimentary cocktail per visit and draws a mixed international crowd.

Hours run 3 PM to 3 AM daily, which gives it a longer window than most comparable spots in Thao Dien. One detail that divides opinion: smoking is permitted indoors. The outdoor area exists, but reviews are direct that the interior draws a heavy smoking crowd, and for non-smokers that shapes the experience regardless of what else is on offer. For those unbothered, the combination of table games, a real kitchen running late, and staff who remember their regulars makes this one of the more complete bar setups in the neighborhood.

Hi all I’ve been here several times over the months I’ve been in Vietnam. The food Is so fresh and well presented. Unfortunately I had a very bad experience lately, nothing to do with the staff or venue, customers coming in from other places that closed who were off their heads probably drugs taking it out on me. The staff were so professional and looked after me and said I was welcomed back anytime. It’s such a shame that people will bring drugs to a great venue and ruin peoples experience. Once again the staff are amazing at Play Saigon, I wish them and the investors all the best

Friendly staff, good pool tables, and the food is pretty good. Less crowded in the early afternoon. I love these salads especially the smoked duck in orange. 🫠🫠
