Food is decent, not the best but great at its affordable price. Will come back often

Bacoulos bistro - French restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

About This Place
Bacoulos bistro sits on a quiet residential lane in Thao Dien and draws a steady crowd of expats and French-cuisine regulars who return largely for the set menu — a starter, main, and drink combination that consistently undercuts what comparable French food costs elsewhere in the city. The kitchen anchors on Lyonnaise and Normandy staples: Beef Bourguignon braised to a dark, glossy sauce, Veal Blanquette in pale cream, Veal Paupiettes with mushroom sauce, and a Chicken Cordon Bleu stuffed with Camembert rather than a processed slice. Cold starters span Beef Tartar, Beef Carpaccio, and an Eggs Tuna Mimosa — straightforward plates that tend to arrive promptly even when the mains take longer.
Service pace is a genuine caveat. When tables fill simultaneously, the kitchen slows noticeably, and multiple reviewers describe waits that stretch past comfortable. The space is split between a covered outdoor terrace — open to the street, warm in peak season, and vulnerable to the mosquitos that accompany any Thao Dien evening — and a small air-conditioned interior with limited seating. Neither space is polished, but that tradeoff keeps the wine list approachable: the Le Petit Chablis draws repeat orders across the reviews. Portions run large; two diners sharing a starter and two mains eat well without ordering sides. The menu includes a handful of Mediterranean crossovers — Greek Salad, Levantine Salad, Ratatouille — alongside the French core, broadening range without muddying identity.
The bistro draws the kind of regular who treats it as a neighborhood canteen: someone who wants Beef Bourguignon on a Tuesday without a reservation and without a bill that requires justification.

Reviews
Good food with a reasonable price. They will alway have either the lunch or dinner course, pick that and you're set. Note: Remy figure not included :"))
Was so looking forward to this after a long day at work…but really not satisfied with the food quality… Ordered the starter + main + drink Tuna tarter was great! With olive oil, red pepper and etc., finished the whole thing! BUT the beed tarter…after the first bite I can’t continue anymore…it tastes so weird and not the beef tarter you would normally get…really bad… So I just finished the mashed potato at the end… When I asked for the bill and the “owner”? saw me didn’t touched the beef tarter, she kept asking and saying “you don’t know it’s not cooked?” “it’s not cooked” and am like “yes I know it’s raw, not my first time having beef tarter” “It’s not about if it’s cooked or not, it’s the taste…” Anyways…wouldn’t recommend or come back to this restaurant
This is the second time we have come here within a week. Loved the below - the food cooks perfectly in French bistro style. Great job, chef! - The wine selection is great and affordable. Our favourite is Le Petit Chablis...wonderful for Saigon weather. - the staff is friendly and helpful. What else do you want to ask for? Definitely recommend that anyone wants to have the French bistro food.
The set menu offers great value for money. The food came a bit slow even when there were not many people when we were there. The taste, portion and presentation are decent. With the couscous dish, it was a healthy and balance meal. We will come back.
