After a month in Vietnam I was craving Mexican food - this might be the longest I've ever gone without it! I was prepared to be disappointed (Mexican outside of Mexico/select parts of US can be... interesting...) but ended up blown away at how good the tacos were here! They even do Taco Tuesday, just like back home ❤️ (125k for any 3) I got the seabass, shrimp, and kalbi beef, as well as the chili con carne tostada. Portions were very generous! Everything was delicious! The tostada was my favorite, but everything was really really good. The taco are on what appear to be homemade flour tortillas (tho will note they were dense not fluffy, curious what they use for the burritos). I was extremely happy betting on this place! If I was in town longer, I'd prolly go a couple times. Staff was also super sweet and the place was super cute! Sit upstairs for a stronger breeze.

El Camino Taqueria - Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
El Camino Taqueria sits on Nguyễn Duy Hiệu in Thao Dien, drawing expats and locals who arrive craving something decidedly un-Vietnamese and leave genuinely impressed. The kitchen runs a Mexican-Korean fusion menu that could read like a gimmick but lands with authority — kalbi beef tacos alongside shrimp and seabass options, a kung pao tofu burrito for the vegetarian crowd, and a chili con carne tostada that regulars single out as a highlight.
The owner is a consistent presence, and that hands-on approach shows in the daily preparation: chips come out warm, salsas are made in-house, and the El Diablo salsa has developed something of a following for its layered heat and flavor. Portion sizes are notably generous across the board, from tacos to the Chipotle Chicken Bowl, which is substantial enough to function as a full meal.
Taco Tuesday is a fixture here: three tacos for 125k draws a post-work and post-gym crowd that gravitates to this stretch of Thao Dien. The spicy mango margarita has fans of its own. The space has a warm, considered interior — not a pop-up energy, but a proper neighborhood restaurant that has settled into its block.
Against the broader Thao Dien dining landscape, El Camino occupies a specific and underserved niche. Other taquerias exist in District 1, but few combine fresh daily prep, fusion creativity, and consistent execution at this price point. The 4.6-star rating across 369 reviews suggests this isn't novelty traffic — it's a spot people return to, particularly expats who've cycled through the usual options and want something that holds up to memory.
Reviews
I just happened to stop by and try this place, but the vibe was totally my thing. I loved it!
Huge portion sizes. The sauces have real heat. There are some vegetarian options - non-traditional (kung pao tofu burrito!).
Great little Mexican food gem in thảo Dien. My go to place after a workout on the way home. Owner is hands on and all of the ingredients made fresh daily including the chips that come out warm. Don’t forget the El Diablo salsa which has a fantastic flavor. Very pleasant atmosphere and nice decor so there is only one word to describe this place, YUMMY! The food is the star of the show.
Awesome place to have unique but delicious mexican/korean fusion. The tacos were delicious and very generous. We had the loaded poutine fries which were delicious. Good value, great service and definately recommend.
