The Story

About This Place

Twist occupies a corner of Xuân Thủy that runs from neighborhood cafe to midnight bar without a break — open seven days from 7 AM through midnight, with the same vintage furniture and sofa seating holding the room across both modes. The space leans local-style: low tables, worn-in seats, the kind of setup that encourages staying rather than turning over.

The Wednesday open mic is the week's anchor event. It draws musicians with an indie lean, and while the sound system has documented limits, the performances are genuinely creative and the crowd comes for the acts. Open decks nights extend that programming further, giving local DJs a platform alongside the performers. The owner is a consistent presence across years of reviews — described as personally warm and invested in the regulars, she shapes the atmosphere in a way that most Thao Dien bars never achieve through design alone.

The drink menu earns praise on both ends of the day. Mornings run on ca phe dua and bạc xỉu, both executed well enough to make Twist a standing daily stop for a portion of the neighborhood. By evening, cocktails take over — the passion fruit mojito and whiskey sour are cited specifically, and pricing sits noticeably below what comparable Thao Dien bars charge. Corona holds steady as the beer of choice for a loyal slice of the crowd.

The mix is genuinely broad: expats who have been regulars for years, Vietnamese locals who treat it as a fixture, solo drinkers who come to read the room, groups landing here before or after other plans. It is not the loudest bar on Xuân Thủy, nor the most polished cafe in the district, but it holds a position few venues manage — equally functional for a quiet morning coffee and a last drink at midnight.

So I came to Vietnam to catch up with my daughter. She asked me to meet at her favourite bar, Twist! What a reunion that turned out to be, so I stayed. Now it is my go to spot for live music, especially the open mic on a Wednesday night.

I didn’t know how much and how I missed this place since my work location have been moved to another spot. I went a few of the pubs, bars, lounges,…But this place is the one I only one to reach and drink my only beer flavor-Corona. Cozy place with sofa to stay on and I look around people here. They live in their on little world, they enjoy the drinks and hobbies. A lot of people sames as me, lonely in this town and enjoy the moment, really interesting moment. I work and live really far away from the city. I would take 3.5 hours to reach Thao Dien; however, I absolutely come to this bar to have my Corona and enjoy the same thing like I was. Will always come back here all over again. Thanks all nice staff

Twist is a cool, welcoming spot and is a pillar of the community. Drinks are reasonably priced, staff is very friendly, the vibe is fun. The owner is one of the most warm and caring people around, she makes you feel like family. Twist attracts a lovely mix of people, both locals and expats, and is a hotbed of creativity. Events like the open mic and open decks are fun ways to meet folks and give platforms to local creatives. TD wouldn’t be the same without Twist.
