Tacos Chiêu - Mexican restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

I truly want to give this place a better evaluation, but for my singular visit it was underwhelming. The price is attractive which is a win, the space is quaint, but the food is/was mediocre. The fusion recipes need attention and possibly some more creativity with love flowing through the kitchen. The sauces were lacking pizzazz too. I wish them well. I may come back, but in a city with so much choice it is really hard to say with certainty.

First let me start off by giving you some context: we are two Mexican American expats who live here in HCMC, and we get pretty homesick for some solid Mexican food. We FINALLY found a place to get our fix, although I should mention this is closer to "Tex Mex". We had a combo plate of burrito and tacos, carnitas and beef. It was so delicious and the portions are great. Nice and filling for two people used to Texas size portions. We ordered the guac as well and it was the creamiest, most delicious guac we've had so far. The tacos had a kick 🔥 they put fresh jalapeño in the pico de gallo so be careful if yore not used to spicy stuff. The salsa was good, not spicy at all but had a good tomato base. The owner was super kind and she talked to us a bit about her restaurant and how she started it. We loved all the decor and especially the eclectic old school Mexican tunes playing over the speaker. It made us feel like we finally have a place from back home to comfort our cravings. Did I mention the prices are reasonable for what you get too? 225k for the burrito, taco combo with guac and we split it between two people. We most certainly will be back to try every single thing on the menu. Can't wait to try the tortas and quesadillas! 😋 🌯 🌮

Delicious Mexican food in Saigon! We were craving some western comfort food and this checked all of the boxes. We had the Da Nang Combo- for 299k you get 4 tacos and a quesadilla. We chose 2 fish & 2 shrimp tacos and the shredded beef quesadilla. Everything was delicious but the beef was especially noteworthy, as well as the mango salsa on the fish tacos. The sauce it came with was perfect for dipping and there was complimentary tra da. The restaurant is indoors with air conditioning and fans, and about 4 tables. The server was young and charming, it seemed to be family run from the home upstairs. We will be back!

Solid Mexican food - yes, tasty but something missing like... Something that would set it apart from other restaurants. Definitely could use some Mexican type sauces and salas on the table. Oddly, the young brother and sister staff looked surprised when I asked for a knife to cut my quesadilla. Or is me who is the only one that cuts his quesadilla with a knife?

Better than expected tacos. The tortilla texture was right, and each taco was heavy and well stuffed with toppings, so it felt worth the price. The only downside was that the AC was off, making it too hot to eat comfortably inside. I’d probably get it to go next time.
