I like this cool feeling near turtle lake. It's hidden place having high quality breads and drinks. And it's enough to work alone or smalltalks with friends. I recommend this place to you.

Bakes Ho Con Rua - French Bakery-Cafe - Bakery in Ho Chi Minh City

About This Place
Bakes sits beside Ho Con Rua — the turtle lake roundabout in the city center — occupying a tall-ceilinged space with a raw brutalist interior that reads cooler than the surrounding streets suggest. The bakery has built a loyal following around East-meets-French flavor combinations executed with enough consistency that a 4.7 rating across more than 1,500 Google reviews has held. The Pork Floss & Salted Egg Lava Milk Bun is the signature to order first: soft, pillowy bread with a rich salted egg cream that pools when broken, finished with savory pork floss that keeps the whole thing from tipping into sweetness. The opla pho mai — a no-bake egg cheesecake — draws its own regulars, praised for a silky, moist texture that lands somewhere between chilled custard and a proper cheesecake. The drinks reach beyond espresso into territory like the Japanese Matcha Pandan Coconut Water, which lands as genuinely refreshing rather than gimmicky. Matcha layer cakes are cut in a vivid grassfield green and sized generously; the hazelnut kiss and lava tiramisu fill out the dessert case at a richer register. Croissants are well-regarded for authenticity. Prices sit at the higher end by Saigon standards, but the bake quality justifies the positioning for most visitors. The space is clean and open enough to work alone or meet a small group without crowding, with ceiling height that keeps things from feeling dense even when the roundabout outside is busy. It draws a mix of expats, first-time visitors to Vietnam, and regulars who return for specific items rather than novelty.

Reviews
I had a wonderful experience at Bakes, where both the food quality and the atmosphere truly stood out. The Pork Floss & Salted Egg Lava Milk Bun was a highlight soft, fluffy bread paired with a rich and creamy salted egg lava filling. The savory pork floss on top added a perfect balance of flavor, making each bite indulgent without being overwhelming. The bun tasted fresh, well-baked, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Alongside the bun, the Japanese Matcha Pandan Coconut Water was refreshing and unique. The matcha had a smooth, slightly bitter note that blended beautifully with the natural sweetness of pandan and coconut water. It was light, fragrant, and very well balanced an excellent drink to complement the pastry. Beyond the food, the ambience at Bakes is warm and inviting. The space is thoughtfully designed with a modern, minimal aesthetic, soft lighting, and clean lines. The pastry displays are neatly arranged, making the bakery feel both cozy and elegant. It’s a great place to relax, enjoy a quality treat, and take in the calm, stylish surroundings. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant café experience with high quality baked goods. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The environment in this café is really cozy and clean. The French croissant looks authentic. Try it next time.
The cake that keeps on giving. I have a massive cake now. The matcha has a vibrant green grass color, taste pretty solid prices are a little high but overall aesthetic cafe.
First day in Vietnam and was mind blown by this amazing bakery. Ordered 4 different things here and all of them were unique and delicious in their own way!!! They delivered too early the first time, but promptly re-delivered again, and their bakes made everything worth it! Will visit again! ❤️
