So cosy and relaxing, I love this place. Soft music, gentleness all around, this place is magical... Great coffee by the way. Would love to have some breakfast menu with bagels, avocado toasts or else, like strawberry tarts. Healthy food possibly...
May Coffee - Coffee shop in Ho Chi Minh City
About This Place
May Coffee sits on a side street in Thao Dien, drawing a steady mix of locals and expats looking for somewhere to settle in without the corporate polish of chain cafes. The layout splits between a shaded outdoor patio — popular on cooler mornings — and an air-conditioned interior for the hotter parts of the day, giving regulars the flexibility to stay for hours without discomfort.
The coffee menu keeps things straightforward. A cafe latte runs 52k VND, roughly 25% less than the equivalent at Highlands Coffee, which makes it a practical daily stop rather than an occasional treat. Regulars describe losing track of time here — soft background music and an unhurried pace feel like deliberate design choices. Several reviewers specifically cite it as a place they return to for long work or reading sessions.
The venue previously offered a noodle dish with beef and bok choy alongside a morning coffee-and-noodles deal at 89k, which earned devoted fans; the current menu has moved away from that direction, and some of those customers are still publicly asking for its return.
Service has drawn genuinely mixed signals. A number of reviews describe attentive, friendly staff and a consistently welcoming atmosphere. Others — including two separate accounts — describe cold or dismissive interactions, with one reviewer explicitly noting that foreign visitors felt unwelcome at the counter. The gap between experiences is wider than typical for the neighborhood and worth flagging.
The space rewards solo visits and longer sessions rather than group catch-ups. For Thao Dien, where many cafes compete on visual aesthetics and Instagram-ready interiors, the appeal here is more practical: fair prices, reliable espresso drinks, and enough seating variety to actually find a comfortable spot.

Reviews
Apparently, the coffee shop managers did nothing about the previous complaint about how unwelcoming the staff is. The coffee, juice, and other drinks are delicious. But the attitude of the staff towards clients is below average. When I entered the shop, no hello, no welcome, no smile, just an emotionless stare. While I was ordering staff didn’t ask if i have any preference or if I know what I would like to order. When I asked the girl to please not add any sugar, she rudely responded ‘In my coffee shop there is no sugar’. Okay chill girl, thanks for letting me know. Are you the owner? Why do you say ‘My coffee shop’ then? 😂 Or work with your staff on customer care either pay them a higher salary to make them put efforts
We went there with the intention of getting food and coffee. Cafe was spaced out well and decorated nicely. However, when we went up to the counter to order the staff had an instant attitude towards us, it made us very uncomfortable and feel unwelcome. We decided to only order coffee and we left quickly. Coffee was nice. The cafe may not welcome foreigners. We will not go back there.
Must try
Nice to be able to sit outside, it’s quite chill
