The Story

About This Place

Bi sits on Nguyễn Đăng Giai, one of Thảo Điền's quieter residential streets, with a ground-floor alley-front setup that catches natural light through the day and decent breezes by late afternoon. The outdoor seating is the main draw — as the sun tracks lower over the rooftops, the space earns its following among locals looking to sit still for an hour without much fuss.

The place operates as both coffee shop and bar across the same hours. Mornings lean toward simple coffees and juices; evenings shift toward a straightforward lineup of beers and cocktails. Prices stay reasonable. The owner is a fixture behind the counter or moving between tables — she runs other spots in the area and tends to pull regulars and first-timers alike into easy conversation. She speaks English well, making it an accessible stop for expat visitors. On at least one occasion she offered a guest fruit and peanuts unprompted, which captures what the place is aiming at: social, owner-present, without pretense.

The indoor section exists but the energy is outside. Because the space is open to the street, smoking is permitted throughout — a real consideration for anyone sensitive to it. Air conditioning is limited at best. The 8 PM close is enforced.

Reviews are uneven. At its best — a Saturday afternoon, the owner present, a cold beer in hand as the light shifts — it functions as a calm neighborhood stop that knows its lane. At its worst, service inconsistencies have frustrated enough customers to generate one-star feedback. The gap between the better and worse versions of the experience is wider than the four-star average suggests. Worth knowing before the first visit.

Nice little neighborhood bar run by a cool girl who apparently runs several other bars and coffee shops in the area too. Good place for an after work drink or chat with the owner and her friends. She has a decent selection of beers and cocktails and a nice indoor and outdoor seating arrangement. And she speaks very good English too.

Usually I wouldn’t hang out in this style of coffee. Just my preference: don’t like open-smoking area. We were looking for Yen coffee however, learned that it was gone. Plus, TD was raining heavily, we decided to give this place a go. Beautiful location for a raining day. Chill. Relax. Again, minus point for us: too much smoking for our liking. Coffee is average. Too sweet per se.

Cute coffee place hidden in an alley with lovely view during daytime and chilling vibe when the sun down. Lovely owner, she invited me some fruits and peanut. Love to spend time here during the weekend when sunset time. Definitely will come back with friends 🥰

this place is unfortunately, trash. I really wanted to like it. whoever owns this spot has not taught staff what good customer service looks like. the general human to human appreciation is absent here: they do not care about regulars no matter how much you go. the drinks are overpriced for how low effort they are. it looks especially bad for bi since the café that was there before did a much more genuine and good job both the drinks and the service. this shame of an establishment has killed the community vibe of this area. do not leave your belongings here and give up on developing a bond with your local cafe…
