The Story

About This Place

Tonic The Rooftop splits its personality across two floors: a main room where a resident DJ keeps the energy up, and an open-air terrace behind it that trades the bass for Saigon River breezes and a direct sightline to Landmark 81. The contrast makes it functional for different moods within the same night — the two spaces are distinct enough that it rarely feels like one or the other is the wrong choice.

Happy hour runs 5–8 PM Monday through Saturday, making it a practical early stop before the rooftop fills up later in the evening. The pool table on the upper floor has become a genuine draw — several regulars mention it by name and return specifically for it. A jacuzzi is available by prior booking, which places this bar in a different category from the average Thảo Điền rooftop that offers only a view and a drink menu.

The 79 Quốc Hương address sits in the quieter residential stretch of the neighborhood, far from the more crowded District 1 bar scene. The hospitality reads as consistent rather than performative — reviewers who visit more than once single out individual staff members by name, which tends to reflect genuine retention rather than luck. Inside, a wall covered in hundreds of empty wine bottles backlit by warm lights functions as the primary design statement: resourceful and visually effective.

Food arrives from an external kitchen and lands somewhere between adequate and forgettable across multiple accounts. Cocktails are the anchor; the selection covers the classics and the pricing sits at a reasonable level for a Thảo Điền rooftop.

Had such a great experience at Tonic Rooftop Bar during my time in HCM visiting from Singapore 🇸🇬. Candy and Zoro took amazing care of me on both visits and their hospitality really made the experience memorable. Zoro is especially attentive and everyone was so friendly and welcoming which made me feel right at home. This is definitely a great spot for anyone looking to chill and unwind away from the busy District 1 crowd. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable perfect for a laid back night out. There is also a billiard table which is a nice bonus. Hope to visit you again when I am back in HCM. Highly recommended ❤️!

Discovered another rooftop in Thao Dien on Saturday night. Tonic rooftop bar offers impressive scenes with swimming pool upstairs, the billiard indoor and Landmark 81 view outside. Came here at late night (10pm) the first time after the rain so probably it was quiet than usual. It offers many classic cocktails and variety of options. Really enjoy the space and creative ideas of using hundreds empty wine bottles with lights to decorate the wall. The cocktails we ordered looked so cool and had good taste.

This place was a chill bar right next to hotel we were staying at. Nice view of the landmark 81 building with nice decor in the bar itself. Drinks were nice and cold, and bar staff seemed attentive. The food there wasn’t the best probably due to it being ordered from another restaurant. Also a rat ran past us while we were eating it.
